- Modern Windows or Macintosh computer (smart phone or tablet is not enough, in most cases)
- Dependable, broad-band internet access (cable or DSL at least)
- Standard software such as Microsoft Office and up-to-date web browsers (such as Firefox, Chrome, Safari)
In addition, some classes may require:
- Webcam with microphone
- Specialty software
How does an online class work? What does it look like?
Rutgers University–Camden online courses are almost always asynchronous, which means there is no set schedule for meeting online or in person. Instead, your week is scheduled with activities that have strict deadlines, but that you can do at the times of day that are best for you. Your schedule might look like this:
- During the first half of the week, you are reading and watching lectures

- By the end of the week, you must complete an online quiz and submit a draft of your assignment
